Advice to would-be Scrappers
 
         
 
1.
Log interest on Scrapheap Challenge/RDF website.

Be invited to apply & complete application forms.

Fill in application forms as interestingly as possible (you don't need heavy metal nicknames).

If one of the above is not a welder, get one or learn fast. Do not lie, you will look stupid and you will fail and will have to live on a small island in the Southern Atlantic for the rest of your life.

Make very interesting video of your team of 3.  
 
b.
As short as they say.  
 
c.
Showing how you work as a team.  
 
d.
Showing how some scientific principal works or how you made something.  
 
e.
Do not show how a vacuum cleaner works.

Or anything to do with vacuum cleaners (we did 'How a Nuclear Power Station Works').  
 
   
 
5.
Submit video on time by registered post or by hand or at least securely (otherwise you may always doubt they got it).

Wait, probably for a short period of time.  
 
   
 
7.
Get short listed or never ever hear from them ever again.  
 
   
 
8.
Do telephone interview ( conf call ) of your team with a team of theirs. We offered a video conference but that was too high tec for them.

Get selected.  
 
b.
If you are attending under the banner of 'a Jaguar or your company team' , involve PR, get team names vetted & be under their watchful eye, you will need their co-operation.  
 
c.
If not affiliated to Jaguar, be sure to never mention Jaguar association ever.

a.
Do your team's introduction , filmed by RDF at some interesting but cold location (if applicable, under PR's watchful eye).  
 
b.
Learn how to do gas cutting well.  
 
c.
Set yourself a team challenge and practice, you will be amazed at how badly you get on when one of you screws up (Garry!).  
 
d.
Go to 1st qualifying round.

a.
Do safety day training and costume fit (ensure nether region clearance is ample & that can easily get off shoulders).  
 
b.
Wear Sloggi underpants suited to your gender ~ do not wear Calvin Klein pants as they will chafe.

Meet your expert & opposing team night before challenge.

Ensure that you and your expert know how you all tick & work together.  
 
b.
Swap skill sets so you trust each other's skills.

Work hard during 1st build day, making your device.

Rest during 'Safety Day ' (safety related mods, guards etc).

Tinker for 1 or 2 hours on competition day.

Compete.

Win.  
 
b.
Keep secret (watch your Mother).  
 
     
      NB. This year it was filmed in Los Angeles, next year it will be filmed in East London. This will be both a good & a bad thing.
